2 Police Checks and Non-Academic Requirements
Non-Academic Requirements (NARS)
All NARS are due by the date outlined by the program area.
If the non-academic requirements (NARs) are not fulfilled on or before the deadline, we are not able to guarantee that students will receive a placement spot. If they miss the NARs deadline and do not receive a placement spot, they will be required to defer their clinical course and any co-requisites to the next semester. Additionally, while we will make every effort to support students, re-entry into the program will be dependent on space in the program/courses.
Students are responsible to cover all costs associated with non-academic requirements (NARs). Students must have the following non-academic requirements (NARs) submitted by the due date outlined by the program area. Please note that all requirements below must be valid for the full clinical placement in order to start your clinical placement. All NARs are submitted through the NIRV portal.
- Clear PRCVS, completed within last 6 months and valid for full upcoming semester
- Immunizations – Tdap, Varicella, Hep B, MMR
- Tuberculin skin test (2 step)
- Flu (Recommended, mandatory in some clinical settings)
- COVID-19 Vaccine (third vaccination dose mandatory in some clinical settings)

Do you have questions related to your Non-Academic Requirements?
Please reach out to the Pre-placement Team: preplacementservices@mohawkcollege.ca; Pre-Placement Nurse: preplacementnurse@mohawkcollege.ca
*NOTE: students may also need to provide the placement facility a copy of the NARs above. Mohawk College cannot send private medical information to the facilities on the students behalf.
Do I need a Police clearance to start placement?
YES! You will require a Vulnerable Sector Check before you start placement.
In all healthcare settings you need a police clearance that is valid. Typically, it should be dated within 6 months from the start of your placement. A letter requesting a police clearance can be found in your associated placement course known as “PSW Non-Academic Requirements” Course in MyCanvas. Take the letter to the police headquarters located in the region where you reside and ask for a Vulnerable Sector Check, providing you are over the age of 18. If you are under 18, please request the Police Information Check (PIC). Most police checks now can be completed online. Start this immediately as police checks take time.
If you live in a region that does not have a police headquarters, you must go through the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). You will find the required letter posted in your Placement course on MyCanvas. The cost of the Police Clearance will vary between regions.
