9 Once You Receive Your Placement Assignment
How to get in contact with my preceptor?
An Initial Meeting is to be arrange by the student with the facility supervisor and or facility preceptor. The facility supervisors contact information can be found within HSPNet. This is usually under “Destination Contact”. The student will be required to set up a meeting with the placement facility supervisor to discuss orientation, training, assigned preceptor, schedule, shifts and go over facilities policies and procedures.
This is an opportunity for you to meet your preceptor and potentially your team. Bring your Police Check, this Placement Manual, and copies of the Midterm/Final Evaluations with you along with your Schedule Verification *Shift Outline Form* along with your Schedule Verification Form. We encourage you to review the evaluation expectations during this initial meeting.
It is also important to discuss your specific learning goals and share your knowledge and skills related to the field. In some cases, you may be asked to bring a resume. Even if you are not asked, in the spirit of demonstrating initiative, bring one anyway!
Please note: All students placed at the agency/facility will attend the initial meeting or orientation at the same time. While you may share a placement with other students, you are evaluated independently.
Please see email template below, this can be used to email your preceptor and or facility when you get there contact information.

What if I don’t hear back from the facility or preceptor?
Start dates may vary depending on facility availability during the first week. If you begin later in the week, that’s completely fine. The first week may include orientation or training shifts, which will still count toward your total hours. Remember, you can also work on weekends. The key is to complete the 168 hours by the end of the 7 weeks, if needed, you can pick up an extra shift or two in the coming weeks.
Please give the facility/preceptor time to respond. If you have not heard by the end of week 1 please let us the FPS know immediately.
