To the Student:
Welcome! You are about to begin your clinical placement experience in the Personal Support Worker program. Placement provides first-hand, applied experience in the role and responsibilities of a Personal Support Worker (PSW). This is the opportunity for you to transfer learning and theory from your college courses into practice.
The focus for placement is on experiencing patient or resident care firsthand in a Long-Term Care Home, Home Care Setting and or a Hospital setting. You the student will understand why the role of the Personal Support Worker is so important in our health care system. The opportunity to participate effectively while on placement is crucial to developing the skill set required of a professional PSW. If there are doubts or questions as to whether you have chosen the right field, the on-site experience will provide clarification.
This is a serious and exciting undertaking. Good preparation is essential to your success. The following policies and procedures have been developed to support your learning and to provide guidance as you embark on your field experience.
