Chapter 11: Skills to Demonstrate Competency

Evaluation of the student’s performance and progress in the field placement is an ongoing process and should be discussed at minimum during weekly meetings between the student and field mentor. Field mentors will discuss any information that appears on a formal evaluation, whether it is positive or requires constructive feedback with the student in advance of the final evaluation, allowing opportunities to remediate or rectify the issue. Field mentors are encouraged to share any concerns regarding student performance are as soon as possible with the student to provide the student with time to learn from and modify behaviour. As a tool to support these conversations, Field Mentors are encouraged to use the Final Evaluation as a method to highlight student strengths and areas in need to development. The Field Placement Specialist should be notified of all student concerns in the field.
