The Impact of Microaggressions in the Workplace
Most adults spend many of their weekday hours in a work environment. Although our workplaces may look very different, the environment we work in universally has an affect on our physical, mental, and psychological wellbeing. Microaggressions that Indigenous and minority employees might experience in their workplace can therefore have a profound affect on wellbeing both inside and outside of work.
Take some time now to reflect on your own mental wellbeing.
What are some things that you like to do to ensure that you protect your physical and mental health?
In this lesson, we will learn more about about the impact that microaggressions can have on Indigenous and other minority employees. We will also explore different strategies that can be employed at the individual and institutional level to make workplaces safe and inclusive for all employees.
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, I will be able to:
- Take action by using actionable strategies to address microaggressions at an individual level and support an inclusive workplace culture.
- Contribute to a respectful and equitable environment, valuing diversity and respecting all employees’ experiences and perspectives.
