4 Economics

Elves

The Elves are very strong economically, with the Terra Elves being the strongest economically among them; mining and controlling the flow of precious goods. The wealth distribution in Elven society is relatively non-existent as the ruling classes tend to control the wealth. The Angelves are really trying to keep their hold. Though the Elves have no concept of poverty, even with their lackluster system of wealth distribution, everyone gets enough to live comfortably. More than comfortably if you’re at the top of the food chain. The Elves do have a system of agriculture fueled by magic, this is mostly managed by the Coast Elves who live in the large swatches of farmland. Elves also have a strong sense of trade having a trade and commodity based economic system which is mostly dominated by Smith and Nomad Elves. Everyone pitches in, that’s actually kind of nice. If only they could chuck those sour few out or their highest tower windows.

Human

While they are very active in agriculture and trade, the humans’ economic strength is moderate. Yeah, so they’re painfully average. Silly little farmers shoveling dirt and shit in their silly little walled cities. Regardless, their wealth distribution is fairly even. Naturally… they have nothing but potatoes and shit to share. You know what, let’s just move on. Well really though, what are you going to say about human beings, they don’t really do anything, especially since the invasion.

Girallon

The Girallon’s economic strength is very poor, they don’t have much to offer. All they have to trade is their knowledge in the form of books and manuscripts. As such, they are major producers of books for Bordanann and Lárdanann. There are loosely structured ‘publishing houses’; groups of Girallon who write similar texts. Despite their large size, they have two sets of very dexterous hands, this means that they are very effective at producing books. And at pointing fingers unjustly at Tieflings. Give it a break, it’ll come out soon enough, I’m sure you’ll get an apology. Really? No, not really. You still wrecked shit.

The Girallon also offer consultation services to the other races for a variety of problems, ranging from accounting to architecture to arts. Few take up these services, but when they do they’re very satisfied with the Girallon’s problem solving capabilities. Payment is given in the form of goods which are considered luxuries to the Girallon.

They are self-sufficient within their jungle, however they appreciate objects like fountain pens and fancy paper weights that they trade with the Kender for. Wealth distribution is very fair as Girallon live humble lives. All their research is readily shared with other Girallon, building a strong academic community that easily builds off itself. Again, healthy. And if they weren’t such prejudiced asses towards my people, I’d say screw it, let them rule.

Kender

The economy of the Kender race survives off of two things; theft and trade. As we’ve established, Kender have a knack for stealing things. The only issue is, they don’t always know what they should be stealing. All Kender are different, as you would expect, and they all tend to steal what they would value the highest in their own personal opinion. Thus, nothing is super safe.

Kender’s economy hitchhikes on the backs of all the other races in Lárdanann. When the Kender’s economy is thriving, this generally means that the other race’s economies are struggling because of the theft.

The other way that Kender built their economy is through trades. Kender have a talent for inventions. As you have probably grasped, the Kender are no one’s favourite fellow race. However, the other races allow for them to operate because of the quality of their inventions.  Nobody knows quite how they know how to achieve the things that they do, but they make it there just the same. Kender create things that both make life easier and more entertaining. They used to make these things for themselves, however they discovered after an incident with the Girallon that they can get a lot by trading the things that they make. Now if there’s something they can’t steal, they trade for it.

Wealth isn’t something that Kender think of as a group. Other than the King, it’s more of an individual issue. Kender usually have just as much as they need. Well in their opinion, that is. In reality they often have much more because many carry valuable things they don’t think of as valuable. And that’s your opinion. Overall, Kender don’t usually struggle in terms of independent wealth. Sounds like you have a soft spot for them. Don’t pretend you don’t love your little humans just the same.

Tieflings

The economic ability of the Tiefling race has been severely impacted by The Big Event. In the past, the Tiefling were able to use their unique dark magic abilities and artifacts from their realm as commodities for trade, especially during festival season when travel between realms is most prevalent. After The Great Invasion, the economic abilities of the Tieflings were mostly sequestered to stay within their own realm.

Economics within the Tiefling society itself is based on a cashless society that functions on a barter and trade system of goods and services. It is not uncommon for Tieflings to do underground trading… literally and metaphorically. The vast cave systems within Bordanann provides the perfect environment to trade secretly with races from the other realms and carry out other potentially dirty deals within their own communities Ahhh, the infamous underground trading posts. They have always been such a good time. Don’t enable them, things like that are dangerous.

The Tieflings are heavily influenced by the elders or heads of the families who are often in control of the distribution of wealth and wisdom. However, there is no real concept of wealth in terms of material things in Tiefling culture. The distribution of wealth in the Tiefling society is mainly in terms of magical knowledge and ability to cultivate the flora and fauna of the realm. Agriculture is unique in this realm due to the glowing flora and fauna which are the main producers of light within Bordanann and are used to enhance or gain certain magical abilities. Yes, the glowing flora and fauna are one of the biggest commodities that are protected and sought after within the realm.

Tieflings have a bustling economic relationship with the Shadow Elves who take up residence within their realm. This relationship began when the Shadow Elves came to share the first Elven spell book with the Tieflings. Some of the dealings between Tieflings and Shadow Elves include sharing magical knowledge, abilities, and spells. Most of the economic relationship between the Tieflings and Shadow Elves is also based on trading the resources that the Shadow Elves have stolen from the Elven realm and brought down to Bordanann.
