Module 3: Clinical Practice and Cultural Safety

Welcome to Module 3: Clinical Practice and Cultural Safety

In this third module, the focus is on highlighting the overarching concepts and beliefs of cultural safety in health care as it pertains to Indigenous people and specifically, Indigenous women. By the end of this module, you will have knowledge and understanding of power differentials and dynamics within the health care practitioner (HCP) – patient relationship, how colonialism continues to negatively impact Indigenous people’s health status, and the resulting impacts on Indigenous women’s health and well-being.

The learning objectives for this module are as follows:

  1. Apply a basic understanding of cultural safety principles and practice and reflect how your practice as a health care practitioner could change when interacting with Indigenous women patients
  2. Identify a culturally – safe treatment approach for Indigenous women with CVD/s illness.
