Background on the Overall Mending Broken Hearts Study
The Mending Broken Hearts (MBH) project is a Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) and Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) funded Research Chair (Early Career) Indigenous Women’s Heart and Brain Health awarded to Dr. Bernice Downey at McMaster University. With an overarching goal of illuminating the existing disparity that Indigenous women face in the treatment and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and stroke (CVD/s), this study aims to educate healthcare practitioners through the centring of Indigenous women’s voices. This community-based participatory research project engages three Indigenous community partners including Missisaugas of the Credit First Nation (MCFN), Lake St. Martin First Nation (LSM) and De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre (DAHAC).
