In Part 1: Indigenous Health: Historical Perspective, you will be asked to read through the slide deck located below. These slides will provide a general overview of heart-related illness amongst First Nations, Inuit and Métis (FN/I/M) Peoples in Canada. The content will focus on statistical information pertaining to FN/I/M Peoples in relation to heart health and how intergenerational trauma may negatively impact heart health. As healthcare providers (HCPs), it is important to consider the sociocultural-specific factors in understanding the health of Indigenous people, specifically Indigenous women.
This section will address the learning outcome: Apply your knowledge of current CVD/s prevalence and mortality statistics among Indigenous women with specific attention to gender and socio-cultural specific factors.
