School, Department, and Program Policies
The policies on this page apply to courses under the AMAT Department only.
Tests
Your myCard ID may be required to identify yourself for written tests and attendance in classes and labs. Students are expected to follow all rules and guidelines for all test (both online and in-person). Failure to follow posted directions may result in a Breach of Academic Honesty and/or being assigned a mark of zero.
Missed Tests
If you miss a test, you have five (5) business days to contact your Professor by email. Failure to contact your Professor in a timely manner may result in being assigned a mark of zero for the missed test. Include the following information in your email:
- Full Name
- Student Number
- Course Code and Section Number
- Test missed
- An explanation for missing the test/assignment
- Supporting documentation (e.g., doctor’s note, death certificate, police report, etc.)
Requests for a make-up test must be submitted to the professor of the missed test. Do not seek permission for make-up tests from the Success Advisor or the Program Coordinator.
Written Assignments (Including Labs)
Note1: This policy applies to all courses unless otherwise stated in the course outline or in the eCentennial course shell.
Note2: The Success Advisor cannot grant students extensions on assignments. This can only be approved by the course instructor.
All assignments are to be submitted as per the course professor’s instructions. Unless otherwise directed by the professor, submissions made by other means than those written on the assignment instructions will not be accepted and will result in a “0” grade for the assignment.
Technical Issues
If a student is experiencing technical issues when attempting to submit an assignment electronically, they must contact the IT Service Desk and have a “ticket” opened. If the technical issue cannot be resolved, students should email the assignment to the professor along with the IT Ticket Number as proof of the technical issue. To connect with the IT Service Desk you can email them at ITServiceDesk@centennialcollege.ca or use the self-serve portal: IT Service Desk Self-Service Portal.
Negotiated Late Assignments
This is an assignment that has been handed in late, but with the permission of the professor. It is the responsibility of the student to notify the professor no later than 24 hours prior to the submission due date. The professor and student, through discussion, will have mutually agreed on the time/extension that the student will receive to hand in the assignment. The student’s grade may be penalized at the rate of 10% per day (including due date of assignment) for each extra negotiated day up to a maximum of 5 days. After 5 days, assignments will not be accepted.
Non-Negotiated Late Assignments
This is an assignment that has been handed in late, and there has not been a verbal, contractual agreement between the student and the professor to extend the time for the assignment to be handed in. This assignment is considered late and will be assigned a grade of “0”.
Extenuating Circumstances
In the event of extenuating circumstances, where the student was not able to seek an extension in advance of the assignment due date, the student must contact the course professor via email no later than 24 hours after the posted due date. The professor will review the documentation and explanation and make a decision whether the assignment will be accepted. The course professor may apply a penalty for late submission.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend all scheduled lectures and labs according to their registered timetable. Absences from lectures and labs should be reported to professors in advance when possible, or as soon as possible following the end of that lecture or lab. Any penalties due to non-attendance will be stated in the course outline.
