3.1.2 – SN2 Mechanisms

Learning Objectives

  1. For an SN2 reaction, predict products, write reaction schemes, draw curved arrow mechanisms, and draw energy profile diagrams, including all intermediates and transition states.
  2. For an SN2 reaction, understand the relationship between the energy profile diagram, curved arrow mechanism, and rate law.
  3. Rank carbocations in terms of their stability and their propensity to undergo SN2 mechanisms.
