The College of Nurses’ values are listed on their website.
- “Innovation: We curiously cultivate new ideas with a desire to learn and a collective focus on the best outcome.”
- “Integrity: We conduct every interaction with fairness, honesty and mutual respect.”
- “Collaboration: We work with the right people at the right time to make the best-informed decision.”
- “Wellbeing: We care for the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional needs of ourselves and others.”
Personal values that I try to uphold daily are honesty, respect, empathy and flexibility. Honesty influences my health and wellness because it allows me to build a strong foundation in all my relationships (both personal and professional life). Respect for myself and others prompts me to engage in mindful and attentive conversations with people, even if it is an uncomfortable topic where emotions might be elevated. Empathy grants me the perspective of others and allows me to be more understanding. When empathy is shown to me, it helps me feel more validated and understood. Flexibility has taught me how to be more adaptable and patient when something does not go as planned. It has taught me to manage my expectations. Trying to have these qualities in my life has allowed me to be kinder to myself and others daily, overall improving my quality of life, health and wellness
