Madison McCombs

Trent University

BScN Student

My name is Madison McCombs, but my close friends and family call me Maddy. I am currently a second year student in Trent University’s compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I graduated high-school with honours in 2021, which was still during the peak of COVID- 19. During this time, I was able to see how hard, but rewarding the profession of nursing is. Prior to enrolling in nursing school I took a gap year to work and think more about what career I wanted for myself. I always knew I wanted to be in healthcare; when I was 3 years old I was adamant that I wanted to be a doctor and cure people in underdeveloped countries. As I got older, my mind shifted towards nursing because I preferred the idea of having more direct patient care interactions. The compressed nursing program at Trent University allows me to enter the workforce as a registered nurse at a faster pace, but also leaves room for continuing education. I would still love to participate in volunteer nursing abroad for a few weeks, in the near future.

My passion for nursing truly flourished when I first began clinical rotations as a practical nursing student. These experiences allowed me to witness how compassionate and competent nursing care can make a huge difference for the patients and their families. Whether it’s holding a patients hand, or advocating for their needs, there is always purpose and fulfilment in this profession.
