Nursing Philosophy
To me, nurses play such an integral role in patient health and disease prevention. They are the face of the hospital, as they are the primary source of information and care for patients. They are also there as a form of support, especially in the absence of peers or family members. They are there in times of need, grief or heartache. Nurses spend each and every day getting to know their patients on a personal level, ensuring that their care is both personalized and effective. It was this level of dedication and commitment that drew me to nursing. The therapeutic relationship between patient and nurse can often influence the level of care given. Therefore, I believe that being a nurse requires empathy, advocacy, compassion, commitment and organization. It requires a desire to help others, regardless of any differences. It requires the understanding that health and wellness look different in everyone, and that it is a nurse’s job to support patients in achieving their goals.
