Chapter 8: Renal Anatomy

In Chapter 7, we talked about blood as a life-sustaining fluid. But what happens when the blood is carrying waste products and needs to be cleaned? Meet your renal system: the body’s own filtration system. The stars of this system are the kidneys, which balance fluids, manage electrolytes, and ensure metabolic wastes make their way out of the body.   • Identify the two regions of the kidney – the medulla and cortex
  • Recognize the nephron and its components throughout the kidney
