What is a grilled cheese SANDWICH?
Oh, you don’t know what a grilled cheese sandwich is? Let me let you in on a little secret, I do. To put it into simpler words, it a slice/serving of cheese(s) between two slices of breads
which is then grilled to perfection. But let’s dive into the deep rooted history and importance of this American staple [1]. First off, the type of bread specifically doesn’t matter, as it can be rye, pumpernickel, brown or even plain white bread. My go to is the white Italian bread you can find in your nearby nof
rills. But what is important is whats in between these slices of bread (*No I lied it’s actually naan. I go for a quesadilla spin off but for now we are talking about grilled cheese SANDWICHES— so Italian bread it is).
But, what must stay constant and consistent culturally, is the selection of cheese between your slices of bread. There is no other acceptable answer other then: 1/3 white cheddar, 1/3 yellow cheddar, 1/3 grated American cheese. For my fellow muslims, you MUST take your time finding these Halal variations. I insist. But you may be asking “WHY this ratio of cheeses” and where’s my reliable source to back up just how great this combo of cheesy goodness is? Take a look:
There is no source more credible, than Jane Villanueva herself. Although I can’t find the specific episode which mentions the ingredients word-for-word, it is practically ingrained into my memory[2]. You yourself can make it to by following this YouTube tutorial if needed. If your’e too lazy to watch the entire video I’ll just briefly list out the ingredients as well!
