My Present: 1LD0 Leadership Vision

My leadership vision is to be a leader with integrity, humility, authenticity, adaptability, as well as creativity and resilience. To me, good leadership is not about perfection, but striving for growth and balance.

I believe that my leadership vision has not only been influenced by what I have learned over the course of my first year, but also the values that I have always had and held true to myself. It was strongly influenced by the traits I view highly in people in general as well as leaders. These qualities resonate with me because they align with my core values. Throughout the semester, however, I noticed that I still struggle with perfectionism and still have a fear of disappointing others and myself despite my best efforts. This semester has been a big learning curve for myself through a lot of self reflection on how I react to difficult challenges and how I move past them.

I had a particularly difficult time adjusting to university, the amount of change and how lost I felt was a very overwhelming experience for me. Despite the challenges I faced, I still pushed through and proved my resilience even if I felt like giving up. The overwhelming feeling of change and uncertainty highlighted the importance of adaptability and self-compassion in leadership. These challenges made me realize that leadership isn’t just about managing others, but also about managing oneself through times of uncertainty.

Particularly through this leadership class, reflecting on my own experiences and what I learned from them, as well as reflecting on who I am made me learn about what I value most in leadership. Through the many workshops, challenging conversations, and one-on-one conversation with Dr. Lorentz, I’ve realized that vulnerability in leadership can be a strength, and being open about challenges allows others to connect with and trust you more deeply. I’ve learned that my past experiences of striving for perfection, while being overwhelming, have made me learn that leaders need to embrace mistakes as opportunities for growth rather than sources of failure. Through this, I’ve come to appreciate the balance between striving for excellence and allowing room for imperfection, which has become a core part of my vision.

Reflection on myself and my leadership vision will help me grow as a leader and become a better person, changing and developing my vision as I experience more things.
