Communication

Communication is the simple act of sharing thoughts or feelings with others. Showing positive communication skills is essential for building trust and providing effective patient care. A clear source of communication helps patients feel understood and supported, which can, therefore, reduce anxiety and encourage patients to engage. Patients who are comfortable with their nurses are more likely to provide information about their symptoms and concerns, as well as their treatment preferences. In addition, it strengthens the nurse-patient relationship, promoting a positive environment and enhancing the quality of the care being provided. Nevertheless, building strong communication skills between “colleagues” or other students within my placement provides a sense of teamwork and unites the healthcare team as a whole. Communication is ultimately about being open, honest, and clear, yet keeping in mind the needs of others.
