smart goals
The term SMART goals refers to a goal-setting method that emphasizes creating goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. Incorporating SMART goals is highly beneficial in the nursing profession, as it allows for clear and structured objectives that can be effectively tracked and evaluated. In patient care we can utilize SMART goals to outline treatment plans, set realistic milestones and ensure the patient and other healthcare providers understand the steps needed to achieve the desired goal.
Smart goal #1
As I approach my first clinical placement in long term care, my goal is to be able to confidently conduct a head-to-toe assessment on a patient by the time the placement concludes in April, 2025.
Smart goal #2
By the time I conclude my first clinical placement in April 2025, I want to be more confident and proficient in performing basic nursing tasks. Two nursing skills I want to be comfortable in conducting by April 2025 include giving a bed bath, and taking and recording patient vitals.
Smart goal #3
By early December, at the end of this semester, I will have a thorough understanding of the six principles of the Code of Conduct from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
