Introduction

Do you want to be at the center of it all? Choose accounting! As an accounting student, you will learn how to support and assist with key decision-making throughout any organization. You will learn about various areas of expertise including Financial Reporting, Audit, Tax and Management Accounting. Fanshawe Student Tax Clinic

During level 3 of the BAC program, students have the opportunity to utilize their newly acquired tax skills by participating in a student-run Tax Clinic held at the main Fanshawe Oxford Street campus. The BAC students assist fellow Fanshawe students in filing their annual tax returns. A local public accounting firm, Ford Keast and Fanshawe Tax Faculty assist, while students gain valuable hands-on experience.

Fanshawe Accounting Association

FAA awarded Club of the Year by the Fanshawe Student Union 2022-23.

The Fanshawe Accounting Association (FAA) is a student-run and faculty-advised club that puts on several events throughout the school year, linking students to employers and also providing a valuable connection with the Canadian Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA). The club’s purpose is to create opportunities for students to engage in new experiences through networking and connecting.  The FAA annual networking event features guest speakers and dozens of partner organizations. Some of the businesses participating in the FAA networking event include: Davis Martindale, BDO, Taxably, Marcus & Associates, KPMG, Bossy Nagy, MNP, Ford Keast, Fisher Corp, Grant Thorton, and Wilkinson Rogers.

Your Future Career

The Business Accounting Diploma program covers all core areas of accounting, resulting in a graduate’s ability to secure work in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, or general bookkeeping. The Advanced Accounting Diploma (link to that OER Program Guide), supports the students’ journey to continue their learnings, enabling them to develop into Manager-level skillsets, and can take them on the path toward the CPA designation.

Accounts Payable : Clerk to Manager Perform Data entry, payment processing, general ledger coding, and analysis
Accounts Receivable: Clerk to Manager Perform Data entry, collection and receipt processing, sales coding, and analysis
Payroll Analyst Perform Data entry, payroll and remittance processing, new employee setup, and analysis
Financial Analyst Perform Data entry, generate standard and ad-hoc reporting, general ledger and journal entry coding, and analysis
Small Business Operator Perform complete cycle book-keeping, including sales, purchases, payroll, budget and reporting, along with general analysis

Your Future Path  

Students graduating from the 2-year BAC diploma program also have the opportunity to continue their accounting studies with Fanshawe. Students can complete one additional year (2 semesters) in the Business Accounting – Advanced diploma to develop their accounting knowledge. Fanshawe also offers a Degree in Accounting. BAC and BAA students are admitted with advanced standings into the Degree program. Students who complete the Degree program have also successfully completed the preparatory (PREP) course requirements for the CPA designation and can advance to the Professional Education Program (PEP) program.

As well, Fanshawe BAC students can transfer to Western University after completing the 2-year diploma program, moving directly into the 3rd year of study. Students graduate with an honours degree from the DAN Management & Organizational Studies Department DAN Management – Western University (uwo.ca).
