FanshaweOnline (FOL)
What Is FanshaweOnline (FOL)?
FanshaweOnline (FOL) is the college’s learning management system (LMS) for creating, hosting, and editing online learning resources. FOL contains a flexible suite of tools for creating custom content for courses and users.
All faculty must use FOL for the routine administration of all courses.
FOL Minimum Expectations
All Fanshawe courses are expected to use FOL. At a minimum, you should have the following items present in your course before the start of term:
- A welcome announcement greeting students before the first class. View the video guide on creating an announcement.
- A detailed course schedule posted.
- A completed and correct gradebook adding to 100%.
- Your contact information in the instructor widget [PDF] (Quick Reference Guide PDF)
- Activities and assignments are posted in the calendar.
FOL Suggestions by Delivery Mode
Face-to-Face
- Create lesson plans with notes (ideally, for the first two weeks to stay ahead).
- Use an attendance sheet/list to help establish class management from the start.
- Post FOL weekly ‘what to do’ templates (lesson plan template) to keep organized. Use the announcement tool for important tasks.
Blended
- Post information on how the blended course will run and be consistent with online expectations throughout the course.
- Create & use a lesson plan template to make the online learning portion organized for you & students to be clear about what to do each week.
- Plan out how you will capture the online hour (is it scheduled before the F2F class or after? Will the lecture be an application of online learning?)
Online
- Post a welcome announcement on FOL on the first day of class. Encourage students to navigate the tools that will be used in the course.
- Set up the FOL gradebook, calendar, assignment/submission, and content modules before the course begins.
- Open all content each week, at the same time, on the same day.

Your first point of contact for help in using FOL is our school’s Educational Support Technologist (EST).
