5 SMART Goals for Winter 2025 Semester

Smart Goal #1: Improve Clinical Skills in Patient Assessment

Specific: I will improve my clinical skills in patient assessment by practicing and focusing on conducting comprehensive health assessments in a variety of clinical settings, particularly focusing on the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of patients.

Measurable: I will aim to complete at least 10 patient assessments (during clinical place) and receive feedback from my clinical instructors, hoping for good feedback, and listen to what needs to be improved.

Achievable: This goal is achievable by making sure to attend my clinical practice every other Tuesday, actively participating in skills workshops, and reviewing material before every clinical.

Relevant: This goal is crucial for developing the clinical knowledge required in nursing practice, which will directly contribute to my ability to provide safe and effective patient care as a future nurse.

Time-bound: I will accomplish this goal by the end of my second semester (Winter 2025), with a progress check in during mid-term mark.

Smart Goal #2: Improve Study Skills and Time Management

Specific: I will improve my time management and study skills to effectively balance my academic workload and clinical responsibilities in the second semester. This will allow me to achieve better grades.

Measurable: I will use a weekly planner to schedule my study sessions, and personal time, hoping to stick to this schedule for at least 80% of the time. I will also set aside specific hours each week to review clinical materials and lecture notes. I currently struggle on reviewing lecture notes and want this to change for next semester.

Achievable: I will use strategies such as prioritizing tasks, breaking down large assignments into smaller tasks, and setting realistic study goals each week.

Relevant: As a nursing student, there is a lot of material, and effective time management is extremely important to meeting the demands of both academic and clinical work. This will help me retain this material allowing me to perform well in exams, and succeed in clinical placements.

Time-bound: I will track my time management plan for the entire second semester, with the goal of improving my grades and clinical performance by the end of the term.
