Artifacts
A collection of artifacts and achievements that have shaped the path that led me to where I am today.
Artifact #1 – The support of my Family
My first artifact is a two-part photo pairing that represents the unconditional support I have from my parents. The photo on the left is of my parents attending my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology graduation in 2022. The photo on the right is of my parents attending my Trent Nursing school summer orientation this past summer of 2024. The photo was taken in Wenjack theatre! My parents are the ‘Tough Love’ type. The journey and decision for my shift in career’s was not an easy one for my parents to accept, but in the end, my parents have always shown me support for all of the academic and career choices I have chosen to embark on. My gratitude for them is endless.
Artifact #2 – My Partner and his sister are both Registered Nurses: The support of my family pt. 2
My second artifact is a collection of items my partner and his sister have gifted me from their time in nursing school. These items include a set of MediQuik Drug Cards, a manual Blood Pressure cuff, and a Littman Stethoscope. My partner, being a registered nurse for almost 10 years now has been a key member of my immediate support circle for my journey. He provides a realistic lens as to what hardships the field of nursing entails. He is also the reason I stay motivated to strive for absolute excellence in every step I take. I will use the same stethoscope he used during nursing school a tribute and symbol of my appreciation towards him for his continuous love and support during this pivotal moment of my life.
Artifact #3 – Certified BLS Provider
My third artifact is my Basic Life Support certification for H&S Foundation, along with an image from the day I completed my CPR training at Trent University. Obtaining my BLS training was one of the first steps that made my nursing journey feel ‘real’. Learning to do chest compressions and provide basic life support solidified by drive and passion to be in healthcare. The action of bringing someone back to life is an absolute thrill to me. I can not even begin to express how eager I am to get the chance to perform chest compressions in a hospital setting soon in my nursing school journey.
Artifact #4 – My Nursing Student ID/ Clinical Badge
My final and most recent artifact is my Nursing Student ID badge I received during my Specimen Collection Lab where we learned how to collect urine from a catheter, solid excretions to send to lab, sputum, and nasopharyngeal swabbing. I see this badge as my first (literal) badge of honor as a student nurse and aspiring healthcare prover. It is a reminder for me to be proud of myself for the choices and steps I have taken to achieve my goals in life. My commitment to myself to be a forever learner and a positive contribution to my community is coming into fruition one submitted assignment at a time!
