NRSG248-Nursing Skill Labs III

This course has been essential in developing both my theoretical knowledge and practical skills for providing nursing care to medical/surgical and newborn/pediatric patients. Through simulated patient care scenarios, case studies, and hands-on applications, I have gained a robust understanding of the complexities involved in nursing practice.

One of the first skills I learned was how to articulate and adhere to my role as a Practical Nursing Student, ensuring that I operate within my scope of practice and demonstrate individual competence based on the care context. This clarity has been crucial in fostering my confidence and accountability as a future nurse.

I have also become proficient in the safe, efficient, and accurate use of various nursing equipment. The emphasis on practical skills in the lab and clinical settings has prepared me to handle tools and technologies that are vital in patient care, ensuring safety for both myself and my patients.

Infection control has been a significant focus of this course. I’ve learned to apply strict practices, including hand hygiene, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques, which are fundamental to maintaining a safe healthcare environment.

Therapeutic communication techniques have been another key component of my training. I’ve practiced various methods to effectively impart health teaching information to simulated clients, families, and fellow healthcare providers. This skill is essential for fostering understanding and collaboration in patient care.

Utilizing all phases of the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—has been central to my learning. I’ve engaged in comprehensive assessments and care planning for simulated clients, ensuring I can adapt to the needs of diverse patient populations.

Integrating physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, and developmental assessment skills has enriched my ability to provide holistic care. This comprehensive approach ensures that I consider the full spectrum of factors affecting a patient’s health and well-being.

Finally, this course has emphasized the importance of professionalism, critical thinking, leadership, and organizational skills in nursing practice. I’ve learned to apply these skills when caring for simulated clients, preparing me to thrive in real-world healthcare settings.

Overall, this course has been a transformative experience, equipping me with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver high-quality nursing care across various patient populations.
