NRSG198-PN Clinical III

This course has been a critical opportunity for me to apply the knowledge and skills I’ve acquired in previous nursing theory and skills labs. It has allowed me to engage deeply with the principles of humanistic caring, reflective practice, therapeutic use of self, and health promotion in real clinical settings.

One of the key areas of focus has been my ability to independently identify my learning needs. This self-awareness has been essential for fostering both personal and professional growth throughout my training. I’ve recognized the importance of continuous learning in enhancing my nursing practice.

In planning care for individuals and their families, I’ve developed a strong understanding of growth and development, along with specific alterations in health. I’ve learned to be inclusive and respectful of cultural diversity, family dynamics, and alternative care choices, ensuring that I provide holistic care that respects each client’s unique background.

Anticipating client needs has been another vital skill I’ve honed. I consistently utilize the nursing process to address the health alterations of clients across the lifespan. This practice has taught me to prioritize the client’s needs and wishes, while also considering cultural influences on health.

Throughout my clinical experiences, I have adhered to the Standards of Practice set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, as well as the policies of Fleming College and the healthcare agencies I’ve worked in. This adherence has been crucial for ensuring safe and effective nursing care.

Effective communication has been a cornerstone of my practice. I’ve developed a range of communication techniques that foster therapeutic relationships with clients, and I actively reflect on these interactions to improve my approach. This ability to adapt my communication style has enhanced my relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

As a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, I’ve utilized professional communication skills when interacting with peers, faculty, and other team members. This collaboration has been essential for achieving client health goals, and I regularly reflect on my contributions to ensure they are effective.

Safety in practice has been a major focus as well. I consistently demonstrate safe practices defined by the CNO Standards, creating a secure environment for clients, families, and staff in my workplace.

I have also developed proficiency in the safe preparation and administration of medications, working under the supervision of my instructor. This hands-on experience has bolstered my confidence and competence in medication management.

Identifying and incorporating community and hospital resources into individualized care plans has become a vital skill. I’ve learned to evaluate and revise these plans as necessary, ensuring that my clients and their families have access to the support they need.

My interventions consistently prioritize the safety and well-being of clients, demonstrating effective assessment and intervention skills that promote client independence.

Moreover, I strive to embody ethical, legal, and professional behavior as a Practical Nursing student. I actively engage in self-reflection, using the CNO Standards of Practice as a guide for authentic self-assessment and competency evaluation.

Lastly, I have focused on developing cultural safety in my day-to-day interactions with patients. This ongoing commitment to understanding and respecting cultural nuances has enriched my nursing practice and strengthened the care I provide.

Overall, this course has been instrumental in preparing me for a successful nursing career, equipping me with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to excel in various clinical settings.
