By the end of the course, I was able to demonstrate various therapeutic communication techniques essential for establishing a nurse-client relationship in line with standards and protocols. I provided interventions that promoted the safety and well-being of clients in long-term care facilities, showing improved prioritization and time management skills.
I also learned to create and utilize care plans to implement basic nursing care for individuals with stable health alterations. My understanding of growth and development enabled me to identify the needs of elderly individuals in these settings. Additionally, I developed insight into my personal and professional growth through reflection.
I demonstrated accountability by adhering to professional ethics, legal responsibilities, client rights, and confidentiality as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. I effectively reported and recorded information using various methods, including oral, paper-based, and electronic formats, all while maintaining timely communication.
Creating a safe environment for clients, families, myself, and staff became a priority, guided by college and facility policies. I participated as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to clients’ health and independence.
Finally, I developed my clinical judgment skills, consistently responding to clients’ needs and prioritizing their health and safety. I learned to advocate for clients’ rights when necessary and practiced cultural safety in my interactions.
This course equipped me with practical experience and skills, preparing me for my future role in nursing.
