This course was designed to support my learning and retention as I prepared for the demanding academic environment of the practical nursing program. It focused on enhancing study skills, test-taking abilities, and critical thinking skills, while also preparing me for clinical placements by promoting sensitivity and care in interactions within the healthcare system.
Throughout the course, I identified my personal strengths and weaknesses, which helped me optimize my learning potential and achieve academic success. I learned various techniques and resources to ensure my academic performance, including effective study methods and strategies for test-taking and critical thinking.
I also developed skills to approach clients in a sensitive, safe, and caring manner, reducing anxiety when interacting in clinical environments. This was achieved through examining relevant concepts and issues related to the initial practice of nursing, in alignment with the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Furthermore, I learned to correctly determine student safety protocols to prevent injury and illness, adhering to workplace legislation. This course provided me with a solid foundation for my nursing education and future practice, equipping me with essential skills and knowledge for success.
