- What are your initial reactions to the simulation? What thoughts, feelings, and emotions are you currently experiencing?
My initial reaction to the simulation was a bit of surprise related to how close to reality the wound images looked. I then began to feel curious on how the simulation will turn out to be in addition to the role I would be required to play.
- What went well during the simulation? What contributed to this success?
What went very well in the simulation was the display of wound care process. Instructions were clear and in-depth as well as easy to learn from. Even if I selected a wrong answer, it was easy to understand why it was wrong and the reasoning behind the correct answer. Every step was clear and easy to understand.
- Describe a moment that you felt less successful during the simulation. What would you change about this moment?
A moment I felt less successful during the simulation is when I was unsure of the additional information to provide to the patient prior to discharge. One thing I would do to change how I felt about this moment is to educate myself on this topic to be better prepared for future scenarios.
- Based on a self-assessment of your performance during the simulation, what learning needs did you identify? Write a new SMART goal.
A learning need I Identified was knowing the differences between the different types of dressings. As a result, by the end of this semester, I aim to better educate myself on dressing types and their purpose using reliable resources.
- Identify at least 3 resources you will use to meet your learning needs. Resources should be specific, credible, and reliable.
- Canadian Fundamentals textbook
- Nursing skills online resources
- Practice case studies
- How will this simulation and your individual learning apply to your professional practice?
This simulation better prepares me when I come across similar scenarios in my professional practice, because it uses situations that could occur in my future career. I was able to learn things like identifying risk factors for wound complications after operations that will assist in making informed decisions, assessing for signs of infection around a surgical wound, managing wound to support healing and providing education on wound care to patient.
