- What are your initial reactions to the simulation? What thoughts, feelings, and emotions are you currently experiencing?
Since at first, I was not given much background information about the patient in the simulation, I initially was not sure what to expect. As I started to better understand what the simulation was about, I found it educational and intriguing.
- What went well during the simulation? What contributed to this success?
What went very well in the simulation was the display of calculation and medication in a real-life scenario which demonstrated the importance of knowing the right calculation to do and how to do it.
- Describe a moment that you felt less successful during the simulation. What would you change about this moment?
A moment I found myself a bit less successful is when I did not get an answer right even when I knew how to get to the answer or when I could not find the information, I needed to successfully answer a question right.
- Based on a self-assessment of your performance during the simulation, what learning needs did you identify? Write a new SMART goal.
A learning need I Identified was knowing what exactly to document or to educate the client on. As a result, by the end of this semester, I aim to educate myself on patients’ needs and will dive deeper into documentation using reliable resources.
- Identify at least 3 resources you will use to meet your learning needs. Resources should be specific, credible, and reliable.
- Canadian Fundamentals textbook
- Nursing skills online resources
- Practice case studies
- How will this simulation and your individual learning apply to your professional practice?
This simulation uses real-life scenarios that demonstrate outcomes that I may encounter in my professional career. In this way, it better prepares me when I come across similar scenarios in my professional practice. I now have increased knowledge on assessing patients prior to patient medication, safe preparation of parental medication, and the utilization of medication rights and policies
