REMEMBER: SMART goals are SPECIFIC/MEASURABLE/ATTAINABLE/RELEVANT/TIME-LIMITED
SMART goals should activate your knowledge, skills and judgement on a critical thinking level expected for a semester 4 student, rather than strictly skills based tasks. (For example “I will recognize the early signs of post partum hemorrhage, and understand its’ management by the end of this clinical rotation” verses “I want to put in a foley catheter by week 8”

– continuously challenge myself to perform the skills I know on my patients and feel confident doing so
– push myself out of my comfort zone to learn new skills while staying within the limits of what a PNS can do and only doing skills that I have been

Goal 1: Nurses seek and use the best available evidence to inform their practice. Goal 2: Nurses conduct research ethically, including placing client well-being above all other research objectives. Goal 3: Nurses identify when their own personal beliefs conflict with a client’s care plan, and provide safe, compassionate and timely care to those clients, until other arrangements are in place. Goal 4: Nurses collaborate and communicate with the health care team in a clear, effective, professional and timely way to provide safe client care. Goal 5: Nurses self-reflect, identify learning needs in their practice and engage in continuous learning to improve their competence. |
