Self-Debrief

- Provide a summary of the virtual gaming simulation from your perspective.
As a nurse I was placed in a situation where I had to use my knowledge and skills to quickly identify priority assessment and interventions as well as applied them to make sure the patient quickly regaining normal health. This made very important for me to know what to do and how to act as my patients airways, one of the ABCs, was on the line.
- Provide a summary of the virtual gaming simulation from Sandra’s perspective? Imagine yourself in her shoes.
From Sandra’s perspective I could only imagine the fear, from her sudden inability to breathe as well as trust in the nurse, making her to hope that the nurse can help her fell better. At that moment Sandra’s fear could make her feel very anxious and agitated especially if symptoms seem to get worse.
- What thoughts/values/beliefs guided your decision-making during this virtual gaming simulation? Will these be the same values that guide your decision-making in practice?
I identify that my priority was to open her airways so every decision I made was to get that result. Anything that could make the breathing easier is what I aimed for as it is one of the ABCs.
- Describe a moment that felt successful during the virtual gaming simulation? What contributed to this success?
A moment that felt successful was when I was able to identify priority assessment and intervention to help Sandra feel better.
- Describe a moment when you felt less confident during the virtual gaming simulation? What contributed to this insecurity?
A moment I felt less successful was when I wrongly organized the steps to administer an inhaler, since it was one of the skills I felt more confident about.
- Based on a self-assessment of your performance and confidence, what learning needs do you have related to this virtual gaming simulation? How will you meet this learning goal?
My learning need would be to review administration of inhalers. I will meet this learning goal by going over PowerPoints and textbook material.
- How will this learning module affect your future practice as a nurse?
This module went over things like proper PPE for a client with respiratory problems, priority assessments and interventions, proper administration of inhaled medications and relevant information to communicate to client or family’s client. All this things are things I may come across in my future practice and therefore knowledge on this is important as it will prepare me for my future as a nurse.
