This course equipped me with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for providing nursing care in complex continuing care and medical settings. Through simulated patient care situations, case studies, and hands-on application of nursing skills, I learned to integrate key theoretical approaches, including humanistic caring, reflective practice, therapeutic use of self, health promotion, and adaptation.
I developed the ability to select appropriate equipment and procedures for implementing nursing interventions tailored to my semester two clinical placements. This foundational knowledge allowed me to safely perform a variety of psychomotor nursing skills relevant to my practice environment.
Additionally, I honed my documentation skills, learning to accurately record client care information using the appropriate terminology. I referred to the Semester II Student Laboratory Guide for specific learning outcomes related to each Nursing Skills Lab, ensuring I met the necessary competencies for my clinical practice. Overall, this course significantly enhanced my preparedness for real-world nursing scenarios.
