An Intro to my Journey

About Me

Hi there! I’m John, a first-year nursing student in the compressed program at Trent University. Before jumping into nursing, I earned a Commerce degree from McMaster University. I started out in finance but quickly realized it didn’t spark my passion or give me the fulfillment I was looking for. That’s when I began exploring healthcare and found my true calling.

For the past two years, I’ve been working part-time as a Personal Support Worker (PSW). This role has had a huge impact on how I view caregiving and confirmed that nursing is the right path for me. Being there for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve loved every minute because it’s helped me develop empathy, resilience, and a deep respect for what people go through.

Becoming a nurse is a chance for me to grow both personally and professionally. The compressed nursing program at Trent has let me dive into a challenging yet fulfilling journey toward becoming a Registered Nurse. I aspire to specialize in critical care as an ICU nurse. My experience as a PSW has given me a strong foundation in patient care, and I’m excited to build on that by advancing my clinical knowledge and developing the skills needed to thrive in high-pressure settings.

Putting together this professional portfolio is an important step in my journey. It gives me a way to reflect on my growth, define my core beliefs, and share the values that guide me as a nursing student and future practitioner. It’s both a record of my progress and a reminder of my commitment to lifelong learning and professional excellence. For me, nursing isn’t just a career—it’s a calling rooted in the desire to make a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives.

Thanks for taking the time to read my portfolio—I hope you enjoy it!
