An introduction to myself, my hopes and dreams for the learning journey I am embarking upon. Telling you about myself and what brought me to the nursing program I am pursuing.
Just the beginning
My journey dates to when I was deciding my future career as a high school student. I knew in high school I enjoyed an employment that made personal connections and cared for people. Shortly after high school, I started working in a long-term care home as a dietary aide. My job included lots of things although, my favourite part was mealtimes where I spent my time interacting with the residents. I quickly escalated through job titles as my experience grew. I went from dietary aide to laundry, housekeeping, personal support aide, and finally personal support worker. My moments as a personal support worker supported me most with my decision to start my journey in health care. At first, I thought paramedic was my top choice, but soon I realized that I wanted to visualize the patient’s recovery, and not hand them off without knowing if they improved or not. After that, off to Fleming I went where I graduated with a diploma in the registered nursing program. I was lucky while in nursing school for registered practical nurse I had consolidation in the emergency department. Since graduating I have not left the emergency room and continue to learn every day and critique my current skills. Currently, my journey is leading me as I work through the registered nursing program at Trent University. While university is new to me, I know if I need assistance, I have lots of supports around me.
