6 Volunteer Meet & Greet
Sparking Ideas for Sustainability
On September 18th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, we hosted a vibrant Meet & Greet for Sustainability Office volunteers in ENW 106. The goal? To connect with students passionate about sustainability, share our vision for the future, and create a space for collaboration and creativity. With our awesome team of student ambassadors—Eve Lockhart, Zwena Gray, and myself—we were ready to dive into meaningful conversations with a group of motivated students.
Building Connections and Sharing Ideas
We kicked off the event by introducing ourselves and sharing the Sustainability Office’s big goal: making Trent a zero-waste campus by 2028. The energy in the room was contagious as students shared their thoughts on how we could enhance sustainability efforts at Trent. We facilitated a brainstorming session where everyone’s ideas were gathered and documented, giving us a roadmap for future initiatives and events.
Why It Was a Success
The event wasn’t just about introducing new volunteers; it was about planting seeds for future sustainability efforts. The students who attended were full of fresh ideas and excitement about making a real impact. Their suggestions are already helping shape our upcoming projects, and we’re thrilled to integrate their insights into our sustainability plan.
Setting the Stage for Future Impact
The event was intimate with 10 students attending, it was an incredibly productive and inspiring gathering. Eight of the attendees expressed interest in volunteering with the Sustainability Office, showing us that there’s a real drive to contribute to creating a more sustainable campus. This group of engaged students is already laying the groundwork for future successes, and we couldn’t be more excited to work alongside them.
Engagement and Collaboration
Throughout the afternoon, we had meaningful discussions with students about the importance of waste management and how they can make a difference in everyday campus life. It was a powerful reminder of the passion and creativity that students bring to the table when given the space to share their ideas.
Overall, the Volunteer Meet & Greet was a fantastic success, filled with new connections, fresh ideas, and a sense of community. It was an exciting step forward in building a group of dedicated volunteers who will help make Trent a more sustainable place for all. We’re ready to take the next steps with our new team—together, we’ll make an even bigger impact!
