5 Volunteer Fair Tabling

Planting Seeds for Sustainability at the Volunteer Fair
The Volunteer Fair on September 11th was an exciting day full of opportunities for students to explore how they could get involved on campus. From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, I represented the Sustainability Office, alongside our collaborators from BlueBoxing, at the Student Centre. The fair was buzzing with energy, and our table was a hub for students eager to learn about sustainability efforts at Trent.
Connecting with Students
The students who came by weren’t just casually browsing—they wanted to make a difference. I had some great conversations with individuals who were curious about environmental issues but didn’t know where to begin. As I explained Trent’s waste sorting system and introduced BlueBoxing, their interest grew. It was a chance to show how easy and impactful sustainable actions could be. Partnering with BlueBoxing added depth to these interactions, giving students a clear understanding of how their participation could make a tangible difference.
Educating and Engaging
Throughout the day, I had the chance to connect with 23 students who were genuinely interested in our work. One moment stood out: a student asked me, “Why is waste sorting so important?” I used that opportunity to explain how proper waste management reduces contamination and helps Trent meet its sustainability goals. The look on their face showed me that they hadn’t realized just how much impact they could have with simple actions.
Why This Event Mattered
This fair wasn’t just about spreading information—it was about creating lasting connections between students and sustainable living. Every conversation felt like a small win, knowing that each student left more informed and inspired to make greener choices.
Laying the Groundwork for a Sustainable Campus
While we only had 23 visitors, the conversations we had were impactful. Each discussion laid the groundwork for fostering a deeper culture of environmental responsibility on campus. It became clear that even a single interaction could spark long-term change, helping students become more mindful of sustainability in their everyday lives.
