7 Groundhog Sticker Initiative

Personalizing Sustainability at Trent
On September 9th, the Sustainability Office, led by student ambassadors Zwena Gray and Eve Lockhart, kicked off the Groundhog Sticker Initiative during Clubs and Groups Day, offering students a fun and personal way to engage with sustainability on campus. The initiative centers around the Groundhog, our lovable sustainability mascot, and encourages students to get involved in eco-friendly activities while collecting unique stickers that reflect their individual sustainability journeys.
Creating Connections Through Fun and Engagement
The purpose of the Groundhog Sticker Initiative was to bring sustainability to life in a way that felt approachable and engaging. Students could personalize their sustainability experience by collecting accessory stickers for their Groundhog mascot, each one symbolizing different actions they’ve taken to support sustainability on campus. From attending tabling events to participating in clothing swaps, students could earn stickers that represented their growing commitment to the planet.
What’s the Deal with the Stickers?
The initiative features a variety of fun accessory stickers, including:
- Groundhog mascot (always available)
- Travel mug (available year-round)
- Top hat (available year-round)
- Green tail
- College scarf (personalized for each college)
- SDG flower logo
While some stickers are available year-round, others are limited-time offers, making each one feel special. A large poster in the Otonabee foyer also helped promote the initiative, letting students know exactly how to get involved and start collecting their own stickers.
Impact and Engagement
The Groundhog Sticker Initiative has taken off with hundreds of students picking up their Groundhog mascot and accessories. Over 50 students earned the travel mug sticker, and 20 students proudly sported the top hat sticker, showing their involvement in sustainability efforts. This initiative has helped create a relaxed, low-commitment way for students to engage with sustainability, while also emphasizing that each person’s journey toward eco-consciousness is unique.
Getting Involved
The initiative keeps students engaged with the Sustainability Office by encouraging participation in weekly tabling events, clothing swaps, and even signing the Green Pledge to earn their college scarf sticker. It’s been a fantastic way to build connections with students while fostering excitement about sustainability.
Building a Community of Sustainability
The Groundhog Sticker Initiative has helped foster a fun and enthusiastic community focused on sustainability, encouraging students to actively participate in eco-friendly events while making their journey personal and unique. It’s more than just stickers; it’s about creating an ongoing dialogue and building a sense of belonging within the sustainability movement at Trent University. The impact has been clear—students are not just collecting stickers, they’re also becoming part of a vibrant community dedicated to making sustainable practices an everyday part of campus life.
