4 Clubs and Groups Day

What Exactly is Clubs & Groups Day?

Clubs & Groups Day at Trent University is always buzzing with excitement. The Bata Podium is filled with students eager to find new ways to get involved, and this year was no different. I was thrilled to represent the Sustainability Office alongside my co-ambassador, Eve Lockhart. With a bright table display and a ton of energy, we were ready to make an impact.

The day started off strong. It was September 9th, and the sun was shining as students wandered through the event, stopping at tables to learn about everything Trent has to offer. We had a clear goal in mind—get students excited about sustainability and teach them how to properly sort their waste. With BlueBoxing as our secret weapon, we were confident we could make waste management seem fun and approachable.

Teamwork and Collaboration

Working with the Sustainability Office is always a rewarding experience, but what made this event even better was the collaboration. Eve and I were joined by the amazing BlueBoxing team, who are passionate about making waste sorting simple and effective at Trent. Together, we knew we could get students thinking about sustainability in a whole new way.

Making Connections

Throughout the day, we had some incredible conversations with students and staff. A total of 35 visitors stopped by our table, each one eager to learn more about what we do. We showed them how easy it is to sort their waste with the BlueBoxing system, and they left feeling empowered to take part in Trent’s sustainability efforts.

One of my favorite moments was when a group of first-year students came by, a little unsure about how waste sorting worked. We walked them through the basics, and by the end, they were excited to put their new knowledge into action. They even joked about becoming the “recycling experts” in their residence!

Why It Mattered

It wasn’t just about teaching students to sort their waste—it was about fostering a sense of community. By the time the event wrapped up, I could tell we had planted the seeds for a more sustainable campus. Students left with a better understanding of why waste management matters and how they could contribute to making Trent a greener place.

This day was more than just tabling; it was about creating connections, building excitement for sustainability, and laying the groundwork for future initiatives. Eve and I both felt like we had made a difference, and I’m confident the conversations we had will continue to inspire students long after Clubs & Groups Day.
