SMART GOALS
Goal #1
S- I want to demonstrate competence with effective conflict resolution skills between staff members within my workplace by May 2025.
M- I would get my preceptor to run through various conflict scenarios and they can assess how I go about managing and working through them.
A- I will have increased my conflict resolution skills by utilizing the document on the CNO website pertaining to the “managing conflict among staff members” section in Conflict prevention and Management practice guideline. I will also attend workshops specific to conflict resolution through Lakeridge Health, attend union meetings that evoke staff to staff conflict where I can practice these skills, listen to the Simon Goode podcast once a week to enhance my knowledge, and collaborate with my clinical instructor on conflict resolution strategies they have found to be effective.
R- Conflict resolution skills are essential within the nursing profession as RNs often are in leadership roles where delegation of tasks and assignments are at the forefront making these skills critical to develop in order to handle these situations when they arise professionally.
T- I will complete this learning goal by May 2025.
Goal #2
S- I want to develop my knowledge and skills in wound care specifically with vac (vacuum assisted closure) wound care dressings by May 2025
M- I will be able to independently and competently complete a vac dressing on a patient.
A- I will sign up for Wound care courses such as wound care courses through Lakeridge Health, I will become a Wound care Champion through RNAO, I will reach out to the Wound care nurse at our facility and ask to shadow her for the day to further my education, I will let my clinical instructor and co-assigned nurses know of my learning goals and look for opportunities to further my knowledge while in clinical placements.
R- Enhancing my competency in vac dressings wound care is relevant while working on a busy medical/surgical unit as many of our patient population are affected by wounds and vac therapy and competency in this area will contribute to reducing poor patient outcomes.
T- I will become competent in vac dressings wound care by May 2025
