Situating Yourself Through this Paradigm

You have now learned about the importance of land in Indigenous worldviews, how land is conceptualized, and how it affects you. It is now time to think of your personal relationship with the land and how it affects you in your role as a community member and professional.

Reflection Exercise

Think deeply about the following questions. Then create an audio or written recording of your reflections about land and identity:

  • How does land affect your identity? What connection do you have to the land?
  • Are there any ways in which you hope to grow in your connection to the land? What do you hope to achieve by doing so?
  • How do you think the land where you live and where you are from affects your work as a professional?
  • What are some similarities and differences between your views of land, and an Indigenous lens when considering land?

Once you have taken some time to reflect on these concepts, share your thoughts with another member of your team or a peer you can trust. Take some time to reflect on the differences and similarities between your views of Land and your partners, and how this can be connected to Indigenous conceptions of this same subject.
