Introduction

Have you ever thought about who you are? What about what elements make up your identity, or why you view things in certain ways? Often, identity is something that we take for granted. We are who we are, simply because that is the way that it is. However, there are many different worldviews that make up your identity, and construct the ways that you think about the world around you. When working with Indigenous content and worldviews, it is important to deconstruct these concepts of identity, land, and worldviews, in order to situate yourself and understand your predispositions and biases.

In this module, you will explore the concepts of identity, land, and worldviews. You will develop an understanding of Indigenous views of identity, how these connect to the land that you live on, and how this impacts your professional practice.

By the end of this lesson, you will have achieved the following learning goals:

  • I will develop an understanding of Indigenous view of Land and identity
  • I will explore my own relationship to Land and my identity
  • I will connect Indigenous views of Land and identity to my professional practice

You’re part of the larger story. Go to the next lesson to begin situating yourself within the context of Land and identity.
