Overview

The Noun Project is a collection of photos & icons under a variety of licenses (i.e., Public Domain, Creative Commons, Royalty Free). Users need to create an account to access the photos & icons on the site.

Collection

Icons

  • A “Basic CC Icon Downloads” plan is free.
  • Free accounts have access to:[1]
    • 5 million+ icons
    • PNG and SVG formats
  • Free accounts do not have access to:1
    • Use without attribution
    • Editing (colours, backgrounds, shapes, etc.)
    • Unlimited icon licenses
    • Adobe, Mac, Office, Google apps
    • Ad-free browsing

Photos

  • A “Basic CC Photo Downloads” plan is free.
  • The photo collection is constantly growing & all photos in the collection are available on a free account.
  • Free accounts have access to:1
    • .2 MP Resolution
    • Creative Commons licensing (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)
  • Free accounts do not have access to:1
    • Cropping
    • Using photos without attribution
    • Editing, building on, or otherwise making derivatives of the content
    • Commercial use
  • None of the photos can be used for resale, on products, or in advertisements.1
  • Photos marked “Editorial Use Only” cannot be used commercially or for promotional use/merchandising.1

Please note: 

When you click on an icon or photo, it will show you a full-size version of the icon/photo, as well as the alternative text & license type, and give you the option to download.

Pay attention to the license type:

  • Public Domain: free of known copyright restrictions
  • Creative Commons: indicates a Creative Commons – Attribution – Non-Commercial – No Derivatives License (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)
    • Typically these are free to download
  • Royalty-Free: indicates a CC licensed photo that you may pay a licensing fee for in order to obtain a royalty-free license for it

The license on each piece of content/media that you find may be different. Please ensure that you are doing your due diligence to discover the license on each piece of media and abide by it.

Attribution:

The attribution on each piece of content/media that you find may be different. Typically, the attribution goes to the author of the content. An example attribution is provided below:
