Program Learning Resources and Facilities

Labs

Two IMM courses may have some of their classes in Labs – IMMT 716 Video for IMMT and IMMT 719 Introduction to Graphics Applications. Faculty will inform you of any lab/software requirements.

Equipment

IMMT is a BringIT (BYOD) program; here are the minimum device requirements:

  • MacBook or PC 15-inch with camera
    • Minimum 8GB RAM
    • 250GB Hard Drive (min)
    • OS: Windows 7 or higher (for PC) or OS X v10.8 or higher (for Mac)
  • Additional Equipment:
    • Connectors: HDMI and USB
    • Recommended: keyboard and mouse

While we recommend a 15-inch computer, it’s really your preference. We do a lot of work analyzing different sites, though, so a bigger screen (or even two screens) is very helpful!

Note that for distance learning via Zoom, it’s also important that you have a stable internet connection. High speed broadband access (LAN, Cable or DSL) with minimum 10mbps download speed is highly recommended. Some courses have more advanced system requirements.

Software

Students have access to industry-leading software packages and bundles that can be found in rooms, labs, and podiums across our campuses. Computers at each campus will be loaded with the applications for use in your courses. To access these features, you must log in to the network using your student number. You can see a comprehensive list of software and software packages installed by room and by campus here.

Minimum Required Software

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), 2010 or higher version
  • Required Browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, IE
  • Plug-ins: Flash, Adobe Reader, Unity, Dropbox, Quicktime

IMMT also requires students to use contemporary software titles that are popular in industry, such as InVision or Figma. There is no need to purchase any of these titles in advance. Professors will provide you with information on free downloads or trials. In some cases, you may need to purchase a title, but we do try to find free downloads and trials, wherever possible.

Digital Resources

Professors will also provide you with lists of online resources specific to their courses, and links to access them.

Library Collections

We have an IMMT book list (to which we continually add new titles) available through the library.

Instructors may make course readings available online through the eReserves service in eCentennial or as physical items that can be borrowed from a campus library on short-term loan. If your instructor is using eReserves, you will see a module in the course content on eCentennial. The list may include links to library resources like databases, articles, and eBooks; book chapters; web links; and open educational resources. Check your course outline or contact your instructor for information about where your assigned course readings are located.
