10 Religious Influence

Religious influence is heavily present in this world, evident in both the architecture and the beliefs of its citizens. The main religion present revolves around the three suns, a religion first believed by the original groups in the world. Although it is now mostly practiced by the islanders, believers are still largely present on the main continent.

Worshippers of this religion pray three times a day, each prayer dedicated to each of the suns and the qualities that each has to offer. The first sun, often called The Sun of Life, which is prayed to at dawn, is looked to for healing, vitality, and balance in their lives. The second sun, The Sun of Power, is prayed to at midday. The second sun is associated with strength, ambition, and guidance. The third sun, The Sun of Darkness, is prayed to at sunset, a time for seeking wisdom, forgiveness, and guidance during darker times. The content and timing of the prayers are tailored to their devotion and what they need for themselves at the current time.

These prayers occur in the sacred buildings, called Sun Temples, and are found in The Hub, as well as various locations within villages across the continent. These buildings are often enhanced with intricate sun-themed art and murals, and large windows to let the natural warmth in from the suns during daily ceremonies. These buildings are considered holy, and their use is strictly reserved for religious practices by believers.

The religion is not only rooted in daily rituals but also in the tradition of stories passed down through generations. These tales describe how the three suns have affected and shaped the current world of Illyreon. It is said that the original Natural Magic that once flowed freely across the land was a gift from the suns. Another, more intense tale, tells a story of how every so often the suns will align, causing catastrophic events. The last time this alignment was said to have happened, there was the partial destruction of one of the two moons, an event that still haunts believers. There is fear among the believers as to when this will happen again, and how it will affect the world and humanity as a whole.

Although this religion exerts a powerful influence over the greater populous, there still remains a significant population of non-believers. These non-believers place their faith into the actions of the Council, who created The Hub after the previous capital city was destroyed. For them, the focus is practical and the governance of the world, rather than the celestial forces that guide the faith of many.
