12 Arts and Culture

Arts and Culture influences within the mainland include a variety of symbolism regarding the religion surrounding the Suns, as well as the moons. Not all art has been created for this religion, however, due to its widespread nature most art is connected through some ideals from the religion. It connects to the details within the Sun Temples (see Religious Influence), art depicting scenes such as the partial destruction of the second moon, and the prophetic art of the three suns aligning. Most art is made with orange, yellow, and gold tones, their paint being made from the variety of plants harvested.

Most art is free to access to the general public of The Hub, with art galleries in different sections featuring different types and styles of art. However, more exclusive art is left only to the higher class, such as plays, only being available to those who can afford them. There are few food restrictions around culture, other than that fish/other water creatures are not eaten (see Agriculture and Trade). This stems from the widespread fear of the water and is one of the many social norms surrounding The Hub. Animals are used for specific purposes, such as chicken for meat and eggs, cows for meat and milk, sheep for wool and meat, and goats for meat. These animals’ value are only attributed to what they are initially used for, they are not worshiped or cared for in any way more than what they give. Sunny side up eggs are a very popular dish within religious groups, as they see it as another form of worship, to eat a dish so connected to the suns.

Folklore is not widely common throughout Illyreon, but one story that presents itself as legend is that of the creature known as the Moon Stalker (see Non-Human). It is a beautifully terrifying creature, which has been classed as open for hunting, if you can find it. Its many eyes are considered a delicacy; however, it is believed to be followed by a haunting curse, which when killed, transfers to the person that killed it. There are many different tellings of how the curse works, or what it does to the person. The most common belief is that those who kill a Moon Stalker, become Moon Stalkers themselves. There are also many myths and legends about the terrors that take over the water that surrounds Illyreon, but no one knows for certain what lies in its depths.
