The population of The Hub is 500,000 people. The closer to the centre of The Hub, the more wealthy the people there are. The families in the Council, about 0.02% of The Hub’s population, control 30% of the wealth. Around 2% of the population makes up the upper class. The upper class controls around 19% of the wealth. The middle class makes up 80% of The Hub’s population and has 50% of the wealth. Lastly, the lower class, 18% of the population controls 1% of the wealth. Currency is tied to citizenship via an illyryite accessory connected to the DNA of citizens (see Magic). Outside The Hub people can use The Hub’s money to trade, however they prefer to trade items, as it is easier for them. The wealth in The Hub is divided this way because the illyryite is controlled by the Council, making them the wealthiest. Illyryite is needed for the prosperity of The Hub (see Economic Strength), as a result, this wealth disparity is due to the Council’s hold over The Hub’s economic stability. This prosperity comes at a cost. While many have found wealth and success, countless others remain trapped in poverty. Beggars line the streets and the poor struggle to survive. The stark contrast between the towering wealth of the few and the abject poverty of the many feels unnatural, even dangerous. This raises questions about how The Hub can thrive when the extremes of wealth and poverty exist so closely together. This imbalance threatens the social fabric of The Hub, its future stability, and the trajectory of its rapid transformation.
An arid city located in the centre of Illyreon. Governed by the Council, The Hub serves as the centre of trade for the continent.
A group of the 40 wealthiest families, who oversee The Hub's daily operations such as trade, monster hunting, and the containment of magic.
Mined from the mountains surrounding The Hub, these magic-infused crystals power technology across the Illyreon. Varying in size and shape, these crystals are clear in a non-magic state, and glow purple once infused. Illyryite crystals are also used to store Illyreon's wealth, with accessories tied to a citizen's biometrics.
