On Illyreon, a small planet orbited by two moons and three suns, its six-hundred thousand citizens reside on a massive central continent, consisting of small villages surrounding the main city, The Hub. This city is governed by the Council, a group of the forty wealthiest families, who oversee daily operations such as trade, monster hunting, and the containment of magic. Although Natural Magic is illegal, with consequences of exile to outer islands, the Council permits the use of magic-infused crystals, called illyryite. These crystals power technology across the continent. Despite being a scarce resource, illyryite is also used to maintain the exchange of wealth and currency through biometrically-tied accessories. Over time, the magical potency of illyryite has begun to deteriorate, causing concern for the Council and the future of Illyreon.

Mined from the mountains surrounding The Hub, these magic-infused crystals power technology across the Illyreon. Varying in size and shape, these crystals are clear in a non-magic state, and glow purple once infused. Illyryite crystals are also used to store Illyreon's wealth, with accessories tied to a citizen's biometrics.
