Professional Code of Conduct
At Centennial College all community members are required to adhere to the college’s conduct policies. Some key questions and answers about conduct are listed below. Links to policies are provided following.
Violence Prevention and Harassment and Discrimination Prevention
Q. Some students use derogatory language. What can I do?
A. You have a right to work and study in an environment free of harassment and discrimination. If you are comfortable speaking to them, ask them to stop. You can also contact the Student Experience Office.
Q. An individual (College employee or student) made a comment which I find offensive. What do I do?
A. If you feel comfortable, address your concern directly with the individual. You could also contact the Student Experience Office.
Q. I am being physically threatened. What do I do?
A. Contact Security and make a report immediately. You have a right to work and study in an environment free of violence.
Sexual Violence Prevention
The College has developed resources and learning opportunities to increase awareness and prevention of sexual violence. Our efforts include the co-development of online training for employees on Centennial’s Sexual Violence Policy, engaging students in dialogue about sexual violence prevention during Orientation and Service Fairs, creating print and online resources and campaigns, involving students in raising awareness through our student contests and delivering Bringing in the Bystander training.
Q. How do I know what to do if I am assaulted or if I witness or know of an assault?
A. The College’s Sexual Violence Procedures, found at widencdn.net/assu7i/BG101-03-Sexual-Violence-Procedures, outline the steps and process to take if you are the survivor or witness of a sexual violence. Student Code of Conduct
Q. What is the Student Code of Conduct?
A. The Student Code of Conduct lists your rights and responsibilities as a Centennial College student and is intended to ensure a learning environment based on mutual respect.
Q. Another student has been making derogatory comments about me on social media. Can the college do something about it?
A. Yes, under our Student Code of Conduct, the College can take action if inappropriate statements are made online by a Centennial College student about another Centennial College student or employee.
Q. What are my rights and responsibilities online?
A. Each member of the Centennial College community is responsible for contributing to an environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. All interactions, whether they are online in virtual spaces or in person on campus, the Student Code of Conduct universally applies. In a time of social and physical distancing, it is even more important for each of us to build connections through open and constructive dialogue, and to be kind and patient with each other as we all navigate rapidly changing circumstances.
