Action: Abducts the shoulder

The supraspinatus is named after its location relative to the scapular spine.

  • Supra-: meaning above
  • Spinatus: referring to the scapular spine

Therefore, the supraspinatus can be found above the scapular spine.

 

Infraspinatus
