Winter Field Placement Roles

Role of the Placement Supervisor

  • Orient student to facility and department
  • Assign/schedule rotation to schedule to meet outlined goals and objectives
  • Assign projects/assignments/activities to students (minimum 3 please for students to report as per Assignment #2); may use the Highly Recommended Projects, Activities and/or Assignments listed in this manual
  • Collect input regarding the student’s performance from relevant sources and other staff complete student evaluation; the Final Evaluations by Wednesday, April 17th, 2024
  • Copies can be found for your use at the end of this manual and electronic copies forwarded via email.
  • Please ensure that you have a discussion with the students regarding their evaluation and please provide a hard or soft copy to the student so they can submit to college faculty to calculate their final placement grade.
  • To be available to discuss student progress
  • Responsible for the direct/indirect supervision of the student during the placement experience
  • Contact Faculty Advisor to discuss concerns/problems with student performance

Role of the Student

  • Attendance is mandatory. Report absence to Placement Supervisor and Faculty prior
  • Arrange pre-placement communication with the assigned Placement Supervisor to: arrange a start time and where to report for first day
  • Discuss the rotation schedule
  • To arrange required medical clearance, uniform requirements, facility identification and orientation
  • Complete course work assigned by Faculty Advisor
  • Complete assignments arranged by Placement Supervisor
  • Communicate, collaborate and work cooperatively and professionally with employees at the placement site
  • Demonstrate safe, accountable, reliable performance in practice to meet placement competencies
  • Seek and accept direction, feedback, clarification and supervision appropriately Arrange and be responsible for travel arrangements and costs
  • Provide copy of resume to Placement Supervisor

Role of the Faculty Advisor

  • Arrange placement with Placement Planner
  • Discuss with students the expectations and results of student’s self-evaluation prior to placement
  • Discuss student progress
  • Evaluate assigned course work given by Faculty Advisor
  • Assist with situations requiring conflict resolution or intervention related to student performance
  • Arrange mutually a site visit
